Chapter 3

Captain Marris is the first person Max meets on The Island of Forever and I wanted the initial vibe to be that of whimsy and fun. It has always been so interesting to me when characters are put in a new environment or tense situation and the one character that lightens the mood or is nonchalant is always welcomed to me. I knew I wanted to have a flying pirate ship in the story because of my obsession with Peter Pan and I figured, what better way to introduce the story than with a kooky pirate bird!

 

If you’re reading this, you have preordered the book (again, thank you!), so that means you’ve received the preorder sticker! I commissioned this art from someone who specifically draws old-style tattoos. I thought it was a different kind of sticker than readers are used to seeing (and kind of badass, right?), but also had elements of the story entwined. 

 

Don’t forget: there’s a bonus short story you can read anytime, but I recommend reading AFTER The Island of Forever. The story follows Captain Marris (as a human!) on a treasure hunt with his crew (!). If I do end up writing more books in this world, I plan on continuing the Marris short stories until we find out how everything came to be. How did The Morgana fly? What happened to his crew? How is he a bird? All will be revealed in time…
