Chapter 6 Fun Facts:

Originally this was an entire chapter of a hallucinogenic show that was brought on by the Hesper leaves. Think the scary part of Dumbo (pink elephants) or that episode of Winnie the Pooh where he falls asleep and goes into a strange nightmare world of Heffalumps (if you haven’t seen either of them, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68pZLPsRBc4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcZUPDMXzJ8). This was obviously scrapped because I didn't feel it progressed the story at all.
This was an important chapter for me to establish how the Sofillians are being welcoming to Max and Hannah, yet are still keeping them at arm’s length. If you’re not from the island, you’re dangerous. Even if you don’t have bad intent, you’re still a threat. I feel, many times, we do this to people we don’t know and shows an unconscious bias
This chapter also introduces that there are more shapeshifters than Samael and how the entire island hates all of them based on one person’s actions.
In this chapter, we see Max trying to convince himself that he’s not different and that Hannah is who he’s supposed to be with. Why WOULDN’T he like Hannah? She has it all!

Meet Calvo:

I think Calvo was one of the last characters I created. Originally there wasn’t a love interest in this book. It’s funny to go back to my first draft and see how drastically it changed.
Calvo is of asian descent and is based on all the *swoony* buff anime men.
His favorite flavor is strawberry
When I wrote him, I saw him as a strong silent type. I mean, who DOESN’T love a dark, mysterious, quiet man?? As I worked through revisions, I wanted to develop a strong bond between him and Max. Going forward, we will see his personality shine through.
I didn’t create a birthday for Calvo, although if I had to guess his zodiac, he’d probably be an Aries.
His favorite color is green
