Chapter 10 Fun Facts:

Making Rylan a merman was a no-brainer because I’ve always been obsessed with mermaids. I love how they’re always depicted with shimmering, iridescent scales. Tales of mermaids are told throughout time and range in their purpose - some are just gorgeous beings while others lure people to their death. I love the range… but they’re ALWAYS beautiful!
The Shellder was mainly based off a hermit crab that I have a core memory of from when I was in junior high. Why? I have no idea.
Rylan’s weapon of choice is a three promged trident… mainly because of my obsession with Finnick from The Hunger Games and Prince Sidon from The Legend of Zelda
Rylan’s magic can be seen as similar to water bending from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Meet Rylan:

Rylan is that character who says what everyone WANTS to say. He says whatever pops in his mind and doesn’t have time to think if it may offend (this trait is 100% me, although I’m trying to get better)
I based Rylan’s appearance on Gavin Casalegno (mainly) and Timothee Chalamet
His favorite food is a large, greasy cheeseburger (or macaroni and cheese)
Rylan’s zodiac sign is Cancer and his birthday is June 26
His favorite flavor is watermelon
Guess his favorite sport….NONE! He thinks jocks are bullshit!
In all iterations of this book, Rylan has ALWAYS been a snarky, sarcastic merman. He truly has been a constant for me… except at the end… that was a surprise (you’ll see!)
